DIY SOS
In April, Architectural Building Design Services were proud to assist Nick Knowles and his team at DIY SOS, helping a local family re-model their house located near Heanor. The programme is due to be aired on the BBC later in the year.
The family who the programme helped have a young son (aged 3), who suffers from an extensive brain injury which is life threatening. He has Spastic Quadriplegia, a severe form of Cerebral Palsy and cannot do anything for himself.
The family needed more space in their home which included the construction of a single storey extension to the rear of the house to provide an accessible bedroom and wetroom, including space for a carer to sleep overnight on occasions. The whole ground floor was altered with many internal walls and chimney breasts removed enabling the ground floor layout to become more wheelchair accessible and enlarged.
The garden was professionally landscaped and turned into a much wanted peaceful haven that the whole family can enjoy together.
The whole project was successfully completed in 9 days.
Architectural Building Design Services provided their services relating to the removal and enlarging of the ground floor layout including designing several steelwork beams.
